A STUDY ON JOSEPH

INTRODUCTION: Many Bible students have noticed the interesting parallels between the life of Joseph and that of our Savior. The Bible never states that Joseph was a type of Christ, but many of the parallels seem more than just chance. Notice now some of the more striking similarities between Joseph and the Lord Jesus:

I. Both Joseph and Christ were beloved of the Father [Genesis 37:3; John 3:16].

II. Both Joseph and Christ Jesus were sent by their Father on a mission of kindness to their brethren [Genesis 37:13; John 3:16].

III. Both Joseph and Christ Jesus came to their brethren and were rejected [Genesis 37:18; John 1:11].

IV. Both Joseph and the Lord were sold for silver [Genesis 37:28; Matthew 27:3].

V. Both Joseph and the Lord Jesus were delivered to the Gentiles [Genesis 37:36; Matthew 27:2].

VI. Both Joseph and Christ Jesus were tempted [Genesis 39; Matthew 4:1-11].

VII. Both Joseph and the Lord were numbered with sinners [Genesis 39:20; Isaiah 53:12].

VIII. Both Joseph and Christ Jesus were exalted [Genesis 41:38- 40; Philippians 2:9].

IX. Both Joseph and Jesus Christ saved their people [Genesis 50:20-21; Matthew 1:21].

X. Both Joseph and Christ forgave their persecutors [Genesis 50:19-21; Luke 23:34].

XI. The Lord Jesus like Joseph will have a Gentile bride [Genesis 41:45].

CONCLUSION: A little thought will reveal many other parallels between Christ and Joseph. A.W. Pink mentions over one hundred.
